Twin brothers Dr. Travan Jasper and Dr. Travis Jasper have returned to their hometown of Richmond, Virginia, to jointly lead the emergency department at Chippenham Hospital, an HCA Healthcare facility. The 56-year-old physicians recently assumed the positions of co-medical directors after spending several years working at hospitals in Georgia, according to ABC News. This appointment creates a distinctive leadership dynamic in HCA Healthcare’s Capital Division, which encompasses 18 hospitals across Virginia and New Hampshire. According to HCA, the Jasper brothers are currently the only twins who lead a hospital department in the division. Their journey started in Richmond, where they graduated as co-valedictorians from high school before going on to attend the same college and medical school. They were the first in their family to graduate from college and go on to careers in medicine. “It’s a real honor to have the chance to care for people you know and are close to,” Travis told ABC News about returning to serve their community. Though both doctors were initially reluctant to practice in Richmond due to concerns about treating people they knew personally, they said their years of experience helped alleviate those worries. After assuming their new roles, the brothers reached out to longtime friends and acquaintances to spread the word. “Come to Chippenham if you want excellent care in the emergency department,” Travis recalled telling the community. We will participate in it. Hospital leaders commended the brothers for their strong teamwork and dedication to caring for patients.
