Compassion

We meet people where they really are — not where we think they should be.

About

Why compassion comes first

Many people struggling with mental health have been hurt by well-meaning advice, judgement or silence. They have been told to “pray harder” or “think positive” when what they needed was someone to simply sit with them in the pain.

At Lifted Life, compassion is the starting point for everything we do. Before we speak, we listen. Before we advise, we understand. Before we quote Scripture, we make sure the person in front of us feels seen.

What compassion looks like here

  • Listening first. Before advice, before opinions, before theology debates — we hear what someone is actually going through.
  • Assuming pain is real. Even if we can’t see it, even if someone “looks fine”, we take their struggle seriously.
  • Speaking to reduce shame. We choose words carefully, avoiding clichés that blame or dismiss.
  • Making space for doubt. Faith journeys are not straight lines. We welcome people who are angry with God, unsure what they believe, or wrestling with hard questions.

On air and online

Our hosts and DJs are trained to use a tone that is gentle, steady and non-judgemental. They avoid clichés and respect how serious mental health struggles can be. They don’t pretend to have all the answers — they offer presence and hope.

Behind the scenes

Compassion also guides how we treat each other — volunteers, staff, trustees and partners. We expect honesty, respect and the courage to apologise and repair when we get it wrong.

“At Lifted Life, compassion is not a feeling. It is a practice and a standard.”
